Band History Current Line-Up Past Members Guest Performers Band HistoryShadow Light was formed in Seattle, WA in 1993 by former Prayers for the Raven keyboardist, John Clough. In addition, Brian Castillo (a.k.a. pFrenz-C), and Greg Forschler (now of Fear of Dolls) also helped put together the original line-up. The first song to be recorded in the studio was to be for Mere Mortal Records in late 1994 (released 1995). They would record the song "The Eternal" for a Joy Division tribute album called Cermonial. Guest performances by Gordon Raphael of Sky Cries Mary, Katrina Bakker of Rosa Luna, and Eric Cooley of Faith & Disease would add to the success of this first release. In 1995 they would begin and finish their debut album entitled " Within the Shadow Light". After shopping the album around to many indie labels they would finally settle with a home town Seattle label, Ivy Records in 1996, who agreed to manufacture and distribute this first release. This same year, they would also find themselves in magazine interviews and articles across the states and a few overseas, most noteably being the listing in Mick Mercer's internationally distributed "Hex Files, the Gothic Bible". After several small U.S. tours and member changes, Shadow Light would begin to record their second follow-up album in 1997. Steve Bergstrom now the main guitarist would join at the end of 1996 and help record the album "Hello Darkness". Like the first album, many fantastic guest musicians would also come to add to the overall sound, artists such as Tristan of "The Endless Still", Eric Cooley of "Faith & Disease", Gordon Raphael of "Sky Cries Mary", and Brian Jenkinson of "The Condemned". Although the album would be finished by early 1998, it would not be released until mid 1999. Schedule conflicts with Ivy Records would force Shadow Light to now join Tragick Records (a label started up by both John Clough and Steve Bergstrom to help further the sound not of just Shadow Light but of all the other bands they felt needed to be put out in a timely fashon). This album would find its first hit with many college and local radio shows for the song "Memories of Dying", a duet with female vocalist, Tristan (at the time, an unknown singer who would later go on to front and record with the band The Endless Still). Late in 1998, Shadow Light would also have join them a keyboardist who would help play their live shows, Josie "Wednesday" Nutter. She would also be the one to volunteer to create and post Shadow Light's first "Official" website. You can see more from her at her personal site www.josienutter.com January, 2000, Shadow Light will record the song, "Raw", for the Tragick Records compilation, "A Tragick Compilation". The band has also taken a short rest as well, so that new music can be written for a hopeful new release (the third full-length album)by end of summer in 2001 on Tragick. 2001 will be a major turning point. Late 2000 - and early 2001 would see a whole new line up for the band. New additions include Amanda Lamprecht on Violins, Tom Barrett on Bass, and Vinnie Romano on drums. With the new line up will also come a new sound. Leaving the synthed and sampled days, Shadow Light is now moving to a more folkier style on a similar vein with Nick Cave, or the Swans. The track, "Last Chance", which initially debuted on "Within the Shadow Light", will appear on Frontline Entertainment's new movie "the Scarlett Countess" due out early this fall. A video was shot for this and will be released on DVD and on this or Tragick Records Websites. 2003! We finally got the band together again and have booked shows this winter and spring! Plus, late this spring we will be back into the recording studio to record our 3rd album (as of yet untitled). Show announcements will be coming soon... Current Line-Up
